A small-business owner comparing Zendesk vs Zoho Desk pricing plans on a laptop at a desk

Zendesk and Zoho Desk show up on the same shortlist because both are big, proven help desks and Zoho's price tag looks far friendlier. For a small team the sticker price is only half the story. This Zendesk vs Zoho Desk comparison covers what each one costs per seat, what you get at the entry tier, and what the support bot adds to the bill.

Prices below are annual-billing list rates, verified October 2026 for Zendesk and checked against Zoho's current tier layout. Both vendors change plans often, so confirm on their own sites before you buy.

We make a support tool of our own, and it gets one clearly marked section near the end. Everything before that is a straight read.

The short version

  • Zoho Desk is cheaper at every comparable tier, and it has a free plan for up to 3 agents with no end date.
  • Zendesk costs more but is deeper: voice, a big app marketplace and mature routing for large teams.
  • Zendesk's cheapest plan is email only. Live chat and AI agents start at its $55 Suite Team plan.
  • Zendesk meters bot answers by the resolution. Zoho does not, but it holds its smartest AI for the $23 plan and up.
  • Zoho is best if you already use other Zoho apps. Zendesk is best if you need phone support and heavy customization.

Zendesk vs Zoho Desk pricing per seat

Start with the plain list prices. Both companies quote annual billing on the page you see first. Month to month costs more, and Zendesk's gap is easy to spot: $19 a seat on annual billing becomes $25 monthly.

Zoho Desk plans, annual billing

Zoho's pricing page now shows rupees to some visitors, so the dollar figures above are its annual list rates as we last confirmed them. Zoho also sells light agents, who can read and comment but not own tickets, at a lower price. Zendesk quotes light agents through sales.

What you get at the entry price

This is where the Zendesk vs Zoho Desk gap is biggest. A feature grid makes the two look alike, but the cheap tiers do different things.

On Zendesk Support Team at $19, you get a ticketing inbox and nothing customer facing. No live chat, no knowledge base, no bot. If you want any of those, you step to Suite Team at $55, which is nearly three times the price.

On Zoho Standard at $14, you already have live chat, an answer bot and a public knowledge base. That is a working help desk for less than Zendesk's email-only plan. Zoho's Express tier at $7 is cheaper still if you only need email and social inboxes.

For three agents on annual billing, the real monthly totals look like this:

Compare the like-for-like pair. A three-person team that wants chat and a knowledge base pays about $42 on Zoho and $165 on Zendesk.

How the support bot changes the bill

Bots are where the two pricing models really part ways, and neither pricing page makes it the headline.

Zendesk bills its AI agents by automated resolution, meaning a question the bot closed without handing it to a person. The pricing page lists 5 included resolutions per agent a month, then $1.50 each on a committed plan or $2.00 each pay as you go. There is also a $50 per agent add-on for its writing assistant. A three-agent team gets 15 included resolutions. If the bot closes 200 questions in a busy month, the extra 185 cost $277.50 at the committed rate and $370 pay as you go.

Zoho has no per-resolution fee. Its answer bot arrives on Standard, and Zia, its more advanced AI, arrives on Professional at $23. The catch is the tier, not the meter. Your bill does not spike in a busy month, but the feature you want may sit one step above the plan you picked.

We dug into why metered bots are hard to budget in our piece on per-resolution pricing. The short answer is that a good month for your support team becomes a bad month for your invoice.

Setup, support and who each one suits

Neither product is hard to try. Both offer a trial (14 days on Zendesk, 15 on Zoho). Getting a clean, working setup takes longer, and that is where reviewers split.

Zoho Desk is highly configurable. Departments, layouts, roles and blueprints give you control, and they also give you a week of admin before it feels right. If one person on your team enjoys settings screens, that is a plus. If nobody does, it is a chore.

Zendesk is polished but wide. The marketplace has thousands of apps, which helps when you need to connect a store, a billing tool or a CRM. It also means more choices before your first ticket lands where you want it. Budget a few days, not a few hours. Where SupportifyGPT fits

Here is the part where we talk about ourselves. Skip it if you only came for the comparison.

We built SupportifyGPT because the Zendesk vs Zoho Desk choice keeps turning on which features were held back for a higher tier. Every feature is on every plan, and plans differ only by how many people can log in. Starter is $15 a month for one seat, Growth is $39 for up to three, and Enterprise is $79 for up to ten. There are no per-resolution fees, no ticket overages and no setup charge.

The support bot is included at $15. Rules read the question and search the articles you wrote. Then a model writes the reply in plain sentences from those articles. It can only use what your business has written down, and it says so when it does not know. New knowledge base drafts wait for your approval before customers see them.

For the three-person team above, that is $39 a month with chat, a knowledge base and the bot, against $165 on Zendesk Suite Team. We are a smaller product. There is no phone or call menu, no native CRM and no mobile app yet. If you need a call center, Zendesk or Zoho Professional is the better buy.
