Gorgias vs Freshdesk looks like a feature fight. It isn't. The two tools charge on different units, and that one fact decides the cheaper option for most small teams. Gorgias counts tickets. Freshdesk counts people. Here is the plain version, with prices checked in October 2026 and a clear answer on who should pick which.
The short answer
- Pick Gorgias if you run a Shopify store and want the order sitting inside the ticket.
- Pick Freshdesk if you have a few agents, a general help desk need, and no storefront to wire in.
- Gorgias bills by ticket volume. Freshdesk bills by agent seat. You can't compare the plans line for line.
- Both meter their answering bot by usage, so a busy month costs more on either one.
What Gorgias vs Freshdesk really comes down to
Most Gorgias vs Freshdesk articles run through forty feature rows and end with "it depends." We'd rather tell you what it depends on. Two questions do almost all the work.
First, where does your customer's context live? If your agents can't answer "where's my order" without the order in front of them, and that order lives in Shopify, then native access to it beats any feature count. That is the whole design of Gorgias.
Second, how many people answer messages? Freshdesk gets cheaper per conversation as volume per person goes up. Gorgias gets cheaper as volume per person goes down. Same two tools, opposite curves.
Answer both and you usually have your winner. A Shopify store points at Gorgias. A small team with no store points at Freshdesk. And if neither describes you, keep reading, because that is the most common shape among the small businesses we talk to.
How the two price lists work
Here is where comparisons quietly mislead people. Prices change often at both vendors, so check their sites before you sign anything.
Gorgias charges for tickets. At our last full check in September 2026, monthly billing looked like this, with annual billing running about 16 percent cheaper:
- Starter, $10 a month, 50 tickets
- Basic, $60 a month, 300 tickets
- Pro, $360 a month, 2,000 tickets
- Advanced, $900 a month, 5,000 tickets
- Enterprise, quote only
Its pricing page today describes the helpdesk as scaling from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month and never priced per agent. Past your allowance, each extra ticket costs a few tens of cents. The answering bot is its own meter, billed only when it resolves a conversation, at about $0.90 per resolution on annual billing in our September check.
Freshdesk charges for seats. Verified October 2026, billed annually:
- Growth, $19 per agent a month
- Pro, $55 per agent a month
- Enterprise, $89 per agent a month
Freshdesk's page advertises about a 20 percent saving for annual billing over monthly. Every signup starts with a 14-day trial on the Enterprise plan. There's also a free program for one or two agents, but it runs six months and then you pay. Reports on the 2026 price rise say Growth moved up from $15 to $19, the first sticker increase in about five years, so older articles quoting $15 are out of date.
The bot is metered too. Freshdesk's customer-facing AI agent includes 500 sessions, then costs $49 per 100 more. The agent-assist add-on is $29 per agent a month and needs Pro or higher.
Price your own shape, not the plan names
Don't compare plans. Run your own numbers on both. Three quick examples, using annual prices and no bot add-ons:
- Five people, 400 conversations a month. Gorgias Basic comes to about $50. Freshdesk Growth is $95 for five seats, and Pro is $275. Gorgias wins, as long as you don't need what Pro adds.
- Three people, 1,500 conversations a month. Gorgias Pro lands near $300. Freshdesk Growth is $57 and Pro is $165. Freshdesk wins by a wide margin.
- One person, 1,500 conversations a month. Gorgias Pro is still near $300. Freshdesk Growth is $19 and Pro is $55. Freshdesk wins by about five to one.
Same two products, opposite verdicts, and none of it has to do with features. If your ticket count is high and your team is small, a per-seat tool is cheaper. If your team is big and your volume is low, a per-ticket tool is cheaper.
What Gorgias does better
Give Gorgias its due. For a Shopify store it does things Freshdesk doesn't do out of the box.
- Order data in the ticket. Order details and customer history sit in the sidebar, and an agent can refund, cancel or edit an order without leaving the inbox.
- Social comments. Replies to comments on Facebook and Instagram posts and ads land in the same queue as email.
- Ecommerce-shaped automation. Rules and macros are built around order status, returns and exchanges, not generic ticket routing.
- Fast to set up. One store, one integration, a handful of rules. Days, not a project plan.
The trial is short, so book an afternoon before you start it. If Gorgias is on your list, our Gorgias comparison page shows where a flat-rate tool costs less and where it doesn't.
What Freshdesk does better
Freshdesk is the broader general-purpose help desk, and it earns that spot.
- Cheap entry for small teams. One agent on Growth is $19 a month. Nothing in Gorgias's list gets that low once your volume passes a few hundred tickets.
- Predictable seat math. Your bill moves when you hire, not when a shipment goes missing and tickets spike.
- Plain ticketing depth. Automations, SLA timers, ticket fields and a knowledge base are all there, and they don't depend on a storefront.
- A real trial. Fourteen days on the top plan lets you try the advanced features before you choose one.
- Integrations. A large marketplace, which matters once your stack is more than a store and an inbox.
The depth has a cost. Freshdesk gives you a lot to configure, and plenty of small teams never finish. Our Freshdesk comparison page has the side-by-side with our own prices.
Where this choice goes wrong for small teams
Both tools are aimed at a slightly different shape than the one most small businesses have. The mismatch shows up in four places.
Gorgias without Shopify loses most of its point. Take away the native order data and you're paying by ticket volume for a general help desk. That is the weakest version of the deal.
The cheap Freshdesk tier is a starting point. Growth is core ticketing. Several features small teams ask about, like custom objects and deeper reporting, start at $55 a seat. Three people on Pro is $165 a month before any AI add-on.
Usage meters punish your best and worst months. A per-resolution or per-session fee means your bill is lowest when you need the bot least and highest when something breaks. The short version is that you can't budget for it.
Setup is a real cost. If nobody on your team owns the rollout, you pay for a year of a half-configured help desk. Research from Harvard Business Review found that customers care most about how little effort it takes to get an answer, so a tool nobody finished configuring works against you.
What we built instead
We're not neutral here, so take this with some salt. SupportifyGPT is built for one to ten people, a few hundred conversations a month, and no appetite for a bill that moves.
Pricing is $15, $39 or $79 a month by seat count, and every feature is on every plan, including the support bot. No per-resolution fee, no ticket overage, no setup fee, and a 14-day free trial. The bot works in two halves. Rules search the articles you've already written, then a model writes the reply from those articles. If your articles don't cover the question, it says so and hands the conversation to you instead of inventing a policy you never wrote. Anything it drafts for your help center is saved for you to approve first.
And the honest boundary: if you run a Shopify store doing 3,000 tickets a month, Gorgias is probably the better tool. If you want a big marketplace of integrations, Freshdesk is. We're the right answer for the middle. You can see all of it on our comparison pages, or check our pricing against the numbers above.
How to pick between Gorgias and Freshdesk in ten minutes
- Count last month's customer conversations. Email, chat, social messages, all of it.
- Count how many people will answer them.
- Multiply your seat count by $19 and by $55 for Freshdesk. Then find the Gorgias plan that covers your volume. The smaller number wins on price.
- Ask whether an agent needs the order record open to reply. If yes, and you're on Shopify, weight Gorgias heavily.
- Ask whether you'll use the bot much. If so, price its meter on both sites for a busy month, not an average one.
- If neither pricing model fits your shape, a flat per-seat tool will be easier to budget. You can start a free trial and test it in an afternoon.
Ten minutes with a calculator beats an hour with a feature table. The feature lists overlap a lot, so price and fit decide it, and you can work out both yourself.
